DISCOVER MACKINAC ISLAND & TULIP FESTIVAL
Our springtime Discover Mackinac Island getaway was an absolute masterpiece of old-fashioned charm, sweeping our Tallahassee travelers from the architecture of Chicago straight into millions of blooming tulips in Holland, Michigan. Between the clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages on car-free Mackinac Island and staying at the legendary Grand Hotel, this journey back to a simpler time left us all with a bounty of beautiful memories.

Discover Mackinac
Springtime in the American heartland is something truly spectacular, and our recent Discover Mackinac Island journey was a beautiful reminder of the joy of slow-paced, nostalgic travel. Taking off together right out of Tallahassee, our wonderful group kicked off the adventure amid the soaring skyscrapers and iconic architecture of Chicago. We fell in love with the energy of the Windy City before trading the roaring engines of the metropolis for the tranquil, blooming landscapes of Michigan.
The sensory highlights of this trip were unforgettable. We walked into a literal palette of living color at Holland’s famous Tulip Time Festival, standing beneath the only authentic operating Dutch windmill in the United States while surrounded by millions of manicured blooms. From there, we boarded the ferry to a completely simpler time on Mackinac Island. Hearing the sound of horse-drawn carriages replace the hum of cars was pure magic. Our two nights at the historic, Victorian-era Grand Hotel were a massive highlight—we spent our evenings listening to the hotel’s live orchestra, strolling the world's longest front porch, and indulging in world-class fine dining at the elegant Salle à Manger.
We capped off our incredible loop through Michigan by exploring the rich layers of American innovation. From wandering the quaint, gingerbread-styled streets of "Little Bavaria" in Frankenmuth to standing in the actual workshops of Thomas Edison and the Wright Brothers at Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum, it was an incredibly enriching experience. Sharing these nostalgic moments, historic milestones, and delicious fudge tastings with such a warm community of travelers made this trip one for the history books. If you weren't able to secure a spot on the coach this time around, you were deeply missed!
See you on the next journey,
Katrina
